Q.U.B.E. 2

PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC

Plan of Attack’s first campaign for Toxic Games was to manage the communications and launch of Q.U.B.E. 2 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The campaign lasted from July 2017 through April 2018, covering the time from Q.U.B.E. 2’s platform announcement through the month after its launch, continuing to secure post launch coverage such as interviews at GDC and PAX East.

In total, we secured 1,185 news stories across the entirety of our campaign. Our initial Coming in 2018 trailer snagged a strong 210 news stories in August. These included such sites as Eurogamer, IGN, Destructoid, and Gamasutra. After that we received 85 news stories from the Early Gameplay Footage in October.

Our next major news beat was the New Gameplay Trailer in January, which secured a whopping 323 news stories, from sites such as PC Gamer, Vandal, VG Chartz, and PlayStation Lifestyle. The release date announcement in February picked up 251 news posts, from sites including Dailymotion, VG Chartz, MSN Italy, Jeux Video, and PC Gamer.

Next came the Launch Trailer, which snagged upwards of 192 news posts (or was featured in a round-up anyway). Highlights include PC Gamer, Jeu Video AFJ, Gamekyo, 4Players, Eurogamer DE, IGN Italy, Spazio Games, and 3D Juegos. The “Out Now” announcement received another 78 news hits, with pick up from such popular sites as Rock Paper Shotgun and FOK picking it up. Finally, the “Accolades trailer” secured another 39 news hits.

We received 37 previews overall. 14 preview write-ups were from Gamescom, 3 were from PAX West, and 1 was from EGX Rezzed last autumn. Highlights here included PlayStation Universe (EGX), Hardcore Gamer (PAX West), and Multiplayer (Gamescom).

In late January / early February, we received another 19 previews from the beta builds we sent out, including from such sites as PC Gamer, Destructoid, and IGN Italia.

We also secured a handful of features on Q.U.B.E. 2’s development, including a piece on developing in Unreal Engine for and a PC Gamer piece on how the team evolved over time.

Let’s Plays and streams of Q.U.B.E. 2, have included Game Guide, Wanderbots, alexelcapo, Superbrioche666, Outside Xbox,, and Banasaurus Rex.

In total, we had 180 reviews for Q.U.B.E. 2 across multiple platforms. Scores ranged a bit from 90-60, but tended to hover around 80, with the aggregate remaining in the green on Metacritic for all platforms. Som review highlights included PlayStation Universe (90), Destructoid (80), Game Master UK (84), XBLAfans (100), True Achievements (90), and The Sixth Axis (80).

Overall Q.U.B.E. 2 managed to gain some traction in the summer slump, hibernated through the Q4 flurry, then came out swinging once the holidays were over and people were hungry for more. The timing of the campaign beats combined with the fact that first-person puzzlers are in vogue, and the quality of the game (of course), have made Q.U.B.E. 2 one of our most highly covered titles.
