SNOOKER 2019(PC, PLAYSTATION 4, XBOX ONE AND NINTENDO SWITCH)
Snooker 19 is the first officially licensed snooker video game in a generation, published by Ripstone Games in collaboration with developers Lab42 and official sponsor, World Snooker, released initially on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and later on the Nintendo Switch. Powered by Unreal Engine 4, Snooker 19 set a new visual standard for a snooker video game. Lab42 created a custom advanced physics engine, designed from the ground up to deliver the most true to life snooker experience and an AI engine designed specifically to emulate the way different pro players approach their shots and maneuver the cue ball around the table to continue their break. Players can expect a full TV-style presentation in the game alongside evocative visual details of the players, arenas and equipment. Player likenesses were meticulously created using 3D facial scanning technology while the subtle yet detailed wood grain of the cues and tables is rendered impeccably. Snooker 19 is the most authentic depiction of the sport ever created.
The Plan of Attack communications campaign for Snooker 19 started in October 2018 when we announced the launch of the game, generating 80+ news stories with some big outlets such as The Xbox Hub, Nintendo Life, Gamasutra, Kotaku and 4Players.
After going dark during the end of year holiday period, UK desk tours were held from February to March, offering a hands-on with the game to big media outlets such as Official PlayStation Magazine, Official Xbox Magazine, Eurogamer, The Sixth Axis, Pocket Gamer and Kotaku.
The official release date was revealed with a new gameplay trailer on March 14th, amassing 130+ news stories picked up by big media outlets globally such as NintendoLife & GamesRadar in the UK; BleedingCool, Tweaktown & Gamasutra in the US; 4Players in Germany, PS4Site in Poland, Sector in Slovakia and PlayFrance in France among others. Gaining worldwide traction for a typical british sport was an important aspect for the PR campaign. Pre-orders were made available on April 4th with the announcement covered by 75+ outlets.
In early April, Snooker 19 was shown at EGX Rezzed holding media appointments in the Xbox One and Unreal stands with a hands-on first gameplay video captured with snooker fan and youtuber CaptainGoodSpeed.
The launch window month was spent garnering reviews from all media, in total, securing 120+ reviews for Snooker 19.
On August 13th, Snooker 19 was announced to be coming to the Nintendo Switch on August 23rd, gaining 60 hits from media including P Nintendo, NintendoLife, TweakTown, GoNintendo, Gamasutra and Worth Playing.
Overall Snooker 19 has been a critical success with 150+ reviews on all consoles and an average metacritic score of 66 on all consoles. Review highlights include Nintendo Life, PSU, Push Square, Stratege, PlayStation Bit, Sector, The Digital Fix and God is A Geek.
Opportunities for a “post-mortem” interview with the developers were pitched to journalists allowing them to discuss the development of the game, the challenges involved in creating their first licensed title, the reception the game has received thus far from critics and the snooker community, and what is next for the team.
Plan of Attack secured reviews and coverage for Snooker 19 from high quality media/influencers around the globe. Snooker 19 was a successful campaign, with a huge number of reviews for a niche sporting game.
